Movie Monday #3: To Love Is To Destroy

We are just over a year away from the the theatrical release of ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ and the hype for the adaptation of the internationally best selling series by Cassandra Clare will only continue to grow as the release draws nearer.
With some help from fellow ‘Mortal Instruments’ fansites (TMI Source, Mundie Moms, TMI Examiner and TMI News en Espanol) we’ve teamed up for a new weekly feature called Movie Monday.

Each Monday leading up to the August 23, 2013, release of ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones,’ we will take a look at a scene, moment, detail, etc. and give our opinions on how we think it will be interpreted in the big screen adaptation.

Here's my take on the scene:

WEEK 3: “TO LOVE IS TO DESTROY

Jace's story of his falcon HAS to be in the movie! I repeat...it has to be in the movie!! For someone who has not read The Mortal Instruments, I feel the viewers will need to see a foreshadowing of the type of person Valentine is, even though they won't be able to connect the dots. The man is cruel and heartless and sees love as weak. This story also shows Clary a more tender side of Jace. She sees the boy that he was and how it relates to the man he is becoming. He was emotionally scarred and trained that to love someone is to break them. "The boy never cried again, and he never forgot what he’d learned: that to love is to destroy, and that to be loved is to be the one destroyed.”

  1. Yes, I agree completely that this scene is pivotal to the story and without it will leave a gap in peoples minds, not knowing what Valentine is REALLY like.

  3. Me too! I'm sure we will have to part with some scenes to make it flow better as a movie, but this is one of the ones I really would hate for them to axe. Crossing my fingers that it stays!
